Birth

The Census of 1881 records a six year old child named Lucie living with William and Sarah Randall. This child would have been named for Lucinda, daughter of William and Sarah Randall and first wife of Nathan Uttley, who had died several years earlier.

Ten years later, the 1891 Census lists a lodger named Lucy still living with William and Sarah Randall. She is working as a servant in the household and is now 21 years old. William and Sarah's son William had a daughter Lucinda who would have been about 21 years old in 1891, but she had married Daniel Bormann three years earlier and was living elsewhere with her husband and her first child. Who is this other Lucinda/Lucy/Lucie?

The same 1891 Census tells us more of William and Sarah Randall's daughter Sarah who had married Henry Addis in 1884. Sarah and Henry Addis have a daughter, in the census, named Luce who is 16 years old. It would seem that this Lucinda was a daughter of Sarah Randall, born almost ten years before Sarah's marriage to Henry Addis.

Philip Bruder was born in Kossuth, Ontario on May 9, 1867 and baptised three days later as a Roman Catholic. His parents were Bernard and Mary Bruder.

The death of a son, William Bernhard Bruder, is recorded in 1895 at the age of just four months. The birth of two daughters is recorded in the Ontario Vital Statistics -- Henriette (Pearl) in 1896 and Violet Rose (Viola Rossina) in 1898.

In 1901 the family is living in Mount Forest with the two daughters.

Death

After the 1901 Census, the family seems to disappear. No record of deaths has been found. But there may be a clue.

In 1940, Violet applied for a delayed birth registration in the province of Ontario. It was hardly necessary because the information given was no different than what had been registered when she was born in 1898. The declaration of the truth of the information given was made by Violet's mother, Lucy Randall, only now her name was Lucy Horner and she was living in Detroit, Michigan. Clearly Lucy had remarried. It may be that Philip and Lucinda Bruder had moved to Michigan and Lucy remarried after his death. Nothing else is known about either.
